A Series of Books on India

Sone Ki Chidiya

India was a Golden Bird (Sone Ki Chidiya). This word had slowly spread over the entire existing world of the medieval period of Indian history. All Kings, merchants and dynasties wanted to explore India, trying their luck for having a go at some share of the cake. The first to invade India was a Macedonian. This was followed by the Arabs, Turks, Mongolians, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, Mughals, British, etc.

Indians were practically slaves for almost five hundred years and the newly formed western world took advantage of this and maliciously grouped together to impose their supremacy of the world and undermining the real achievements of the great Indians by stealing and claiming to be the fathers of various Indian inventions. Ancient India has a history of hundreds of thousands years but this new recently developed world linked us to one of the three Bronze age civilisations as if our existence started with five thousand year old Indus Valley Civilisation i.e. 3000 BCE only.

India was the world Guru, most civilised, most developed and most rich country. Even during Indus Valley period, many cities were famous for their urban planning, baked brick houses, the multi storied houses, elaborate drainage systems, water supply systems, clusters of large non-residential buildings, and new techniques in handicraft (carnelian products, seal carving) and metallurgy (copper, bronze, lead, and tin). The economy of India was the richest economy and for a continuous duration of nearly 1800 years from the year 1 CE (so called 1 AD), India was the top most economy constituting 35 to 40% of world GDP i.e. till the early nineteenth century. East India Company, British Raj and the other western world were the major beneficiaries of the transfer of wealth from India.

Max Muller was a German-born philologist and Orientalist, who lived and studied in Britain for most of his life. He was one of the founders of the western academic field of Indian studies and the discipline of Study of religions. He was a great personality of the 19th century. He had called India a “paradise on earth” because it is the place where the ‘greatest achievements’ of the human mind were originally achieved. Many of the other western laureates, historians and philosophers have expressed the similar views.

“India Series” is a series of Books written by Vijay Kumar Dewan and has put in all his experience and efforts to explore India that has never been a part of any book. India has a great history. Ancient India was a land of all the greatest achievements of the human mind. Whether it is the universe creation? the evolution of knowledge, or the development of science and technologies, mathematics or medicine. It is all the more intriguing that it has never been, even a sort of stories told by any of the parent, teacher, school, college or university in India. Indians are now beginning to realise that it is time that let us call a spade a spade. Let the whole world must learn to live with the reality of facts.

Origin of Civilisations

The truth is that the Ancient Indian history is hundreds of thousands years old whereas the rest of the World came into its existence around 3500 BCE only. Sumer is the earliest known civilization in the historical region of southern Mesopotamia (now southern Iraq) (3500 BCE), during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Ages, and one of the first known civilizations in the world along the valleys of Tigris and Euphrates rivers followed by Egyptian civilization along the Nile River (3000 BCE), and Chinese civilization along the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers (2200 BCE). A recent genetic analysis of ancient Mesopotamian skeletal DNA tends to suggest that even the Sumerians may have been related to the original Dravidian population of India.

The word Iran is derived from this very root, having been transformed from Aryan to Iran, meaning the land of the Aryans. The Iranian peoples stem from the early Proto-Iranians, themselves a branch of the Indo-Iranians, who are believed to have originated in either Central Asia or Afghanistan circa 1800 BCE. The Proto-Iranians are traced to the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex, a Bronze Age culture of Central Asia.

The first people to speak Greek were the Mycenaean’s. They ruled southern Greece about 1600-1200 BCE. Mycenae was their most important city. Those whose stated ethnic origins included “Greek” among others were the Greeks or Hellenes or Greek Ellines are an ethnic group native to Greece, Cyprus, southern Albania, Italy, Turkey and Egypt and, to a lesser extent, other countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.

The Origins of Latin Linguists theorize that the ancestors of Latin appeared in the Italian Peninsula around 1000 BCE, where it started to form into the oldest version of true Latin, known as Archaic Latin, somewhere along the Tiber River. As legend has it, Rome was founded in 753 BCE. By Romulus and Remus, twin sons of Mars, the god of war. The history of the Arabs begins in the mid-ninth century BCE, which is the earliest known attestation of the Old Arabic language. Rest all countries were born later on.

As regards religion, all religions were born in Kalyug. Hinduism is the oldest religion that started around 3000 BCE and followed by Hindus in India, the Zoroastrianism religion started around 2500 BCE and followed by Persians in Iran and the Judaism religion started around 1800 BCE and followed by Jewish in the Middle East. The other religions that originated later were Jainism started in 640 BCE, Buddhism started in 563 BCE, Confucianism started around 500 BCE, Taoism started around 400 BCE, Shintoism around 100 BCE. These all religions are known as sober religions as these religions never believed in spreading the religion and are followed throughout the world.

Christianity and Islam religions did not exist in the Pre-Common Era. Christianity is the religion that is based on the birth, life, death, resurrection and teaching of Jesus Christ. Christianity began in the 1st century CE after Jesus died as a Jewish sect in Judea and Islam originated in Mecca and Medina at the start of the 7th century CE, approximately 600 years after the founding of Christianity. Both Christianity and Islam religions believe in spreading the religion which is against the norms of Humanity.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 was a spiritual Guru. He was not just a Sikh Guru rather he was the Universal Guru of humanity across the globe. Guru Nanak Ji was a great saint, seer, mystic, and prophet. He rejected the notion of divisions between people based on religion. Guru Nanak Ji never recommended for any religion but spoke of importance of “Ram” and “Ram Rajya” in his own way. He wrote the name “Ram” for 2533 times in Granth Sahib to teach the various values in human beings.

We came across the word “God”, so we tried to find out the meaning of the word “God”. We were surprised that English word ‘God’ had no translation in most of the Indian languages. In India we talk about ‘Deva, ‘Bhagwan’ and ‘Ishwar’ to identify our deities and none of these words are translation of the word “God”. We observed that either the word God is a newly created word in English language or a relatively new European invention, which was never used in any of the ancient Judaea-Christian scripture manuscripts that were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek or Latin.

Another example is the terms BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini) are presently used to label or number of years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and the same has been adapted by the western world. In fact, the western world is trying to impose these terms, the actual terms to label number of years are BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (After Common Era). These terms cannot be linked with Christ as Christ was born less than 2000 years ago where as time in number of years is immemorial and can be defined for the last hundreds of thousands of years e.g. Kalyug started in 3102 BCE.

Paradise on Earth

Knowledge as defined by the World is awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation or knowledge of facts, information, and skills acquired through the experience or education or the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. Let us take the example of “Hand”. World has described the meaning of hand in its own ways and our Rishis described hand as follows

The hand has the power to turn pages, feed an empty stomach, touch a grieving soul, to grow food, to water the plants and the will power to unfold our destiney. Let the hand be used mindfully and more often. With your hand, if you do it with your mind, instead of relieving the pain, it toughens even harder. Our hands are the antennae of our soul. If you move them Knitting, Cooking, Painting, Playing or sinking them into the ground, you send care signals to the deepest part of you and your soul lights up because you are paying attention to it. Then signs of pain will no longer be there to be felt.

Think of babies: they start to know the world through the touch of their hands. If you look at the hands of old people, they tell you more about their life than any other body part. Everything that is done by hand is said to be done with the heart because it is the reality that hands and heart are connected. Masseurs know well: when they touch someone with their hands, they create a deep connection. It is precisely from this connection that healing comes. Move the hands with love. Begin to create with them and everything within you will begin to move. The pain will not pass away. And instead what you do with them will become the most beautiful masterpiece and it won’t hurt any more. Because you have been able to transform its essence. That is the difference between knowledge of the west and the knowledge possessed by our Indians.

We Indians are celebrating Kumbh Mela since ages that come once every twelve years because Jupiter orbits around the Sun in twelve years. That means we knew the Jupiter and its cycle much before Galileo and the western countries were even born. Similarly, we are observing Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse since ages. We gave “Zero” to the world. We gave Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Decimal System and Quadratic formula, Fibonacci Numbers, Length, Weight, Infinite Series and Binary Code. Here’s what Will Durant had to say:

“India has sent to the West such gifts as grammar and logic, philosophy and fables, hypnotism and chess, and above all numerals and the decimal system. She was the mother of our philosophy and much of our mathematics. The ideals embodied in our Christianity and the self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.”

Thomas Edison of USA had invented Gramophone for “His Masters Voice” (HMV) which could record human voice. For the first recording, and to demonstrate the new machine to the world, Edison requested Prof. Max Muller, an eminent scholar, to speak in front of an audience. After recording Muller’s voice on a disk in the morning, Edison played it back to the audience on the gramophone in the afternoon. The audience was thrilled to hear the voice of Max Muller coming from the instrument.  After several rounds of applause and congratulations to Thomas Edison, Muller came to the stage and addressed the audience and said, “You heard my original voice in the morning. Then you heard the same voice coming out from this instrument in the afternoon. Do you understand what I said in the morning or what you heard in the afternoon?”

The audience fell silent because they could not understand the language in which Muller had spoken. Muller explained it was Sanskrit language and the words he recorded were the first sloka of the Rig Veda: Agni Meele Purohitam. Max Muller explained his choice to the audience he said, “Vedas are the oldest text of the human race. And “Agni Meele Purohitam” is the first verse of Rig Veda. In the most primordial time, when human beings of the Western World did not even know how to cover their bodies and lived in caves and hunted for food, the Indians were much advanced and had attained high civilization. They gave the world universal philosophies in the form of Vedas”. When Agni Meele Purohitam was replayed the entire audience stood up in silence as a mark of respect for the ancient Indian Sages who had written Vedas.

Just fifty years ago, the west used to laugh at us for we used cow dung for our fertilizer. They used chemical fertilizer and today they are using cow dung for organic farming. We used herbal plants for our medicines; they recommended Penciling, amoxicillin and teramycillin etc. Today they are recommending medicines made of herbal plants. Our yoga gurus are all over the world teaching them ways to live a healthy life. Our Namaste is preferred over shake hands. They have started knowing the need for washing rather than wiping with the videshi paper in the loo. Soon, we will see buckets and mugs in their wash rooms. Corona virus has taught them the fundamental personal hygiene.

As regards the corporate world, we have world renowned names like Tatas, Birla, Modi, Wadia, Dabur, Kirloskar, Godrej, Nestle, Raymond, Bata, Bajaj, ITC, JK, Alembic, Cipla, Shalimar and Indian Hotels etc, all of these groups are more than two centuries old. We have the best brains in the world may it be science, engineering, medicine, legal, IT, accounts, architecture, banking, consumer goods or politics etc. Currently Indian are the Chief Executives of IBM, Google, Microsoft, Master Card, Adobe, Diageo, Novartis, Nokia, Harman, Reckitt Benckiser etc. Indra Nooyi is the longest serving female on the various Boards of Directors. That speaks volume of Indian Human Capital.

Our Traditional Values

I am 72 years of age and was lucky to be born in a Heaven called “Joint Family”. My earliest memory is of crawling on the kitchen floor, picking up a lid and gently placing it over a vessel of boiled milk. Those were the days when western-style kitchen counters had not caught on the Indian kitchens that had work places on floor level. The family sat on the floor, the stove was on the floor, pots and pans were stored at floor level, and everyone dined seated cross legged on the floor. We had never heard of any Arthritis, Endometriosis and Infertility related deseases in the family. When I think of those days, I began to marvel at the human brain, its capacity to store and retrieve memories. Undoubtedly, the brain is a complex piece of machinery, crisscrossed by neutral and biological networks that carry information back and forth much like the modern communication system and computers do.

My elders used to tell me seven simple ways by which one can strengthen one’s memory power. First was to do regular brisk morning walk for 20-25 minutes immediately after sun rise because plants start releasing oxygen only after sun rise. Secondly, they advised me to recite Gayatri Mantra three times daily after morning walk. It hardly takes one minute but is very powerful in enriching the health of memory of one’s brain. Thirdly, saying something loudly or writing it down can reinforce memory in the brain. Fourthly, get enough sleep during sleep because the brain consolidates its memory during sleep. Fifthly, everyone has faith in God but love for God is necessary and suggested me to chant Hanuman Chalisa once in a day. It hardly takes 2-3 minutes and there are no rules attached to it. One can recite it anytime anywhere. This will ensure a good health. Since my adulthood, I have never been to a doctor or hospital for any personal health issue. Sixthly, take simple homemade food and avoid junk food and lastly, must believe in self so that one takes life as a journey and not as a race.

Quest for Writing

I have lifetime experience of dealing with young Indians. This young segment is very close to my heart which has motivated me to explore India for them. I, therefore, decided to write a series of books under the banner “India Series”. I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can’t make it through one door, I will go through another door – or I will make a door. Something terrific will come, No matter how dark the present.” These words have made me fearless. It does not bother me who was who? I don’t even care who is who? I don’t have an iota of fear for who will be who? I have decided to call a spade, a spade. Every word in my books shall be only a statement of fact, a truth. I am now absolutely sure that no one on earth has the guts to fight the truth. I assure you that during reading of my series of books, you will not have a feeling that these books are written by an Indian just because he lives in India rather by an Indian who firmly believes that India lives in him. I have so far written five books and am working on another three books. I can only assure you that you will become passionate about reading my books.
